My Favourite Gadgets

Intro

I love to explore technologies and I believe one can explore anything only if he/she dirties his/her hand in that. Almost all my pocket money, prize money, project money etc is spent on gadgets and I don't regret this as I don't have a girlfriend to spent on ;-)

Mobile Phones

  • I won this ultra-sleek smart phone in Microsoft's Imagine Cup referral contest for MSPs in April 2008. Just 2 words for the designer of HTC touch, "Hats Off!".

  • htc touch looks
  • One thing that plagues all the smart phones in the market is that All these Phones are "illogically" designed. When I say illogical, what I mean to say is they are just Smart, they are not phones. The main utility of a phone is to Call, SMS and store contacts. I've seen phones which has SMS Inbox somewhere as deep as 6 button press from main Menu! Phones which delete contact numbers by accidental press of DELETE buttons without warning but warns 2 times to delete an entry in Missed Call Section!

HTC touch has all the major utilities 1 button far from the Main Menu. SMS, Call, Call log Calendar, Battery Level, e-mail, Weather Report, Alert Type etc, All of them JUST 1 button click!

The Battery life is amazingly good. The standby time is still more than 10 days even after 4 months of proper usage. Amazing Speaker Quality, Great 3rd Party Software support (almost all softwares that run on a windows PC), MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint 2007 etc. After all its Windows Mobile 6.0 which is running. The Camera is pretty good (2 MP camera).

What makes it different from other Windows smart phones is the TouchFlo feature, which gives you the Pseudo Multi-Touch feeling. The Contacts, SMS etc can be scrolled down/up by pushing the content Up/Down using our fingers. But let me tell you, the touch screen is not as advanced, nor as cool as an iPhone's display

    Disadvantage

Hardly any buttons which makes the phone an "Executive" class phone, definitely not for a student. If you sms a lot, please avoid both HTC touch and iPhone. My sincere suggestion.

    End Note

Though HTC is the most sophisticated phone I owned till now, its not my favourite phone.

  • I bought W810i from the Royalty of the first edition of my Maiden book, BLITZ. I Paid 14K in Feb 2007 and its worth every Rupee. This has been my favourite phone.

  • w810i
  • Its a Java based phone, meaning there're hardly any virus on this platform. Though I can't install as many softwares as one can in a Symbian platform, the softwares I regularly needed were available for download and thus that didn't bother me. Brilliant design, not-so-great formfactor (cos its bulky). Amazing camera (2 MP Autofocus), great walkman software with amazing ear-plug phones and what more I got the complementary Tweeter Speakers which runs without external power supply! The flash light is really powerful and helpful.

  • mps 60
  • Sony Ericsson guys don't boast much. But whatever they flaunt, they see to it that its the BEST.

  • Well, I bought this by accumulating all the prize money I got in my 2nd PU. This is my first ever phone and the most explored one.

  • c100
  • This is the most primitive phone with GPRS and 16 chord polyphonic ringtones. This has 65k colour display unlike a contemporary Nokia (same price range) phone which has around 3000 colour display. Other great features include Very interactive Menu, Flashing Wallpapers, MMS support and Good Java Games. When realeased it had mesmerized the world with its Charismatic Sleek look. Even today, C100 is as sleek as or even sleeker that HTC touch (which is really sleek).

Samsung has pushed C100 off its shelf by stopping its manufacturing 2 years back but the support still continues. I bought the Battery from Samsung showroom in July 2008 which supports my preceding statement.

Music

  • A unsung Hero which got squashed by the 'i' gadget (ipod of course). Thats how i describe my iriver H10. My ex roommate who is a US citizen got it for me from USA. I wanted nothing less than an ipod but the M factor refrained me from doing so. So i asked him to get anything thats good. Because then, for me "If its not an Ipod, it might as well be a FM radio. LOL. Now I know ' how wrong I was then!

    iriver

  • Goto Iriver Website
  • Sennheiser, a German based company is one of the leading research firm in the Music World. I got it bundled with iriver H10 but good enough to get described separately

  • mx 400
  • This one has an amazing treble effect, good Bass effect. The overall effect is really good. The only field its not good is Noise cancellation where it sucks.

  • Overall Rating : 3.5 out of 5
  • This is the best earbuds that I have ever listened to. I bought this in USA. I am not sure if this is available here in India.

  • philips
  • Excellent Surround Sound effect. Great noise cancellation technology. The earplugs are really comfortable. For $18, its a steal.

    Overall Rating : 4.1 out of 5

Wishlist

If you're a Gadget freak, there are a few gadgets which are a MUST OWN gadgets. I am listing it down with a wish that it gets into one of the preceding lists in near future. Again, its dependent on the M factor (Money Factor).
